How Much Does a Massage Cost in Ao Nang? A Straight Answer
Prices along the Ao Nang beach road are printed on boards outside every shop, which makes them look simple until you notice the same treatment listed at three different numbers within fifty metres. Here is what the differences actually mean.
The typical range
A 60-minute traditional Thai massage or foot massage sits around 350 baht. Oil massage starts a little higher, around 400 baht, because of the products used.
Speciality oil treatments such as aromatherapy blends, coconut oil, coconut milk or aloe vera generally run 500 baht, and hot oil slightly more. Sports massage, which is slower and more targeted, is usually 600 baht.
Scrubs and facial treatments are priced by the products rather than the time, which is why a 45-minute facial can cost more than a 60-minute massage.
What you are paying for when a price is higher
Product cost is the main driver. Aloe vera, coconut milk and quality essential oils cost more per session than plain massage oil, and a body scrub uses a noticeable amount of material every time.
The second driver is room and equipment. Treatments needing a private room, a shower or a sauna cost more to deliver than a treatment on an open floor mattress.
When a price is suspiciously low
Very cheap rates usually mean shorter sessions than advertised, shared open spaces with no privacy, or therapists without formal training. None of that is dangerous, but a 60-minute massage that quietly ends at 45 minutes is not the bargain it looked like.
Ask how long the session actually runs and whether the price includes the whole body. Any honest shop will answer without hesitation.
Tipping
Tipping is not required in Thailand and no one will chase you for it. It is common and appreciated: 50 to 100 baht for a good 60-minute session is normal, more if the therapist worked hard on a specific problem.
Give the tip to the therapist directly rather than leaving it at the counter if you want to be sure it reaches them.
Booking ahead usually costs nothing
Most shops do not charge extra for reserving a time, and evening slots between 5pm and 8pm fill up fastest because that is when tours and beach days end. Booking a slot costs nothing and saves the walk between full shops.
